The Firm continues to evaluate potential Actos lawsuits on behalf of patients who developed bladder cancer, allegedly due to long-term use of Actos.
New York, New York (PRWEB) December 19, 2012
The first Actos lawsuit alleging long-term use of the type 2 diabetes medication causes bladder cancer is scheduled to begin early next year in California, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. The case is one of many Actos bladder cancer lawsuits pending in JCCP 4696 - In re Actos Product Liability Cases, a consolidated proceeding now underway in Los Angeles Superior Court. Judge Kenneth R. Freeman, who is overseeing the California Actos litigation, has scheduled the trial?s start date for February 19th, 2013. (Jack Cooper, et al. v. Takeda Pharmaceuticals America, Inc., et al., No. CGC-12-518535)?We look forward to the commencement of trials in both the state and federal Actos litigations,? says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing the victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The firm is currently offering free lawsuit evaluations to individuals who were diagnosed with bladder cancer following long-term use of Actos.
Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits
In addition to the California proceeding, hundreds of Actos lawsuits are currently pending in a federal multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Western District of Louisiana. The first trial in the federal litigation is scheduled to begin in November 2014, followed by the second trial in July 2015. (In re: Actos Product Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2299).
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) ordered Takeda to add new warnings to the Actos label in June 2011, after a study found that long-term use of the drug increased the risk for bladder cancer.* Since then, further research has confirmed an association between Actos and an increased risk for the disease. In May 2012, research published in the British Medical Journal concluded that taking Actos for two years can double the risk of developing bladder cancer. ** A second study published in the Canadian Medical Association in July 2012 concluded that patients taking Actos face a 22 percent increased risk of developing bladder cancer. ***
While Actos is still available in the U.S., the drug has been pulled from the market in Germany and France due to its association with bladder cancer.****
Actos users who developed bladder cancer may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more.
